Starling Bank customers can use the post office.
But don't pay in more than a grand in cash in a year otherwise you get hit with charges.
That’s ridiculous. Is it a war against cash or something? I’ll not touch that bank.

I'd suggest Monzo or Starling as they have the best apps around by far. Nationwides is like something out of the stone age in comparison.
The only thing is that Monzo or Starling don’t have branches but as has been said above, Starling Bank customers can use the post office.
You  can pay in cash at Paypoints with Monzo, although there is a charge, Starling let you pay in cheques up to £1000 in the app and with both you can pay in cheques by post. Cash and cheques are an occasional nuisance for most people so it shouldn't be much of a concern.

What you looking for from a bank?

    Everyday banking?

    Savings?

I only do Current & Savings accounts to be honest and usually you can only get decent savings if you already have an existing current account.

Most of the banks seem to have cashback &/or other loyalty/reward scheme, although can be beaten by Quidco/TopCashback etc.

Banks do switch offers too so you can get some money that way too.

As long as a bank does what you need it to do I don't think it matters who you go with to be honest.

I'm with several banks & building societies and majority of the time they do what I need them to do.

It doesn't bother me that much who owns who etc, there's protection with money etc.

The use case is for people to pay in birthday money or cash given for errands.

Every bank/building society has to pay the Post Office whenever you use their services, in the case of traditional banks they can justify the expense as being a saving overall because it has allowed them to close most of their branches (which obviously will have cost far more), but in the case of Starling it's just an additional cost since they have no branches.

Overall I'd say if you deposit a lot of cash then (a) you're probably cruising for a bruising in terms of attracting 'reviews' and (b) you're probably wasting your time looking at an 'app based' offering.

Just choose a real bank and not some Mickey Mouse outfit that doesn't let you deposit cash without charge.

Probably First Direct would be a viable option for you.
