SMP after being sacked.

Good evening.

I would be very grateful if anyone can offer any advice on the following.

My daughter has just been sacked and is 33 weeks pregnant.

She has worked for the company from September 22 until this week and therefore qualifies for SMP and from what I can gather (from looking online)  you are still entitled to this even if sacked.

Obviously the normal way to be paid SMP is through your employer and would be paid on your normal payday from work.

My question is
how would you receive the SMP if you have been sacked and are still entitled to it?

Many thanks.

Presumably SMP will be paid via DWP I would think.

But my question would be why was she fired?  Possible discrimination?  If she was taking too many sick days or had too many appointments due to her pregnancy that would be an issue that needs to be dealt with.

My understanding is that the employer still needs to pay it.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

If the employee has qualified for SMP then it should be paid.  If the employee was to start working for another employer then payment might be stopped but gets a bit more complicated there.
Payment is normally made on the usual paydays but the employer if they wish could pay as one lump sum.

Agree with Brie on possible discrimination.

As long as she exceeds the average weekly earnings of £123 per week & followed the correct procedure for letting her employer know she's pregnant then yes she should be entitled to SMP.
