Probate confusion

Hello, I just wanted some advice as I’m worried we have done the wrong thing and I can never get hold of the people dealing with our case quickly.

My father had a few bank accounts when he died with different values along with his house etc so we have appointed a solicitor to deal with probate as it feels too complicated. We recently had a couple of the banks write to us as we were closing accounts and one of the banks has released funds to us as it was under the threshold needed for probate.
Does anyone know what needs to happen with this money, does it need to go to our solicitors or just declared to them as it will count to inheritance tax. As a side note, there is no other beneficiaries in the will but probate has not yet been granted, we have been advised this will take between 9-12 months.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The money should be given to whoever is acting as Executor (who was named in the will?). Maybe that is one of the family with the solictors just helping with the probate application?
