Travel insurance through bank account

Some years ago I had hassle trying to arrange travel insurance through my bank account.  I'd had a comparatively minor medical procedure and they refused to insure me for 'at least a year'.  Stupidly I decided not to bother with them again.  Fairly recently I had notification that the bank had changed their insurance provider so thought I'd investigate.
To cut a long story short, I have to pay under £60 for myself and wife for annual cover, additional cost is due to my hip replacement, compared to best part of £400 as the cheapest quote from a 'specialist company' to cover pre-existing conditions.  I have been very careful to ensure I declare everything.
Moral of the story - don't cut off your nose to spite your face :D
