Can you get one if not working? My wife is not working currently as looking after our 18 month old son and pregnant with our second child. Hmrc have asked for payslips but obviously she doesn’t have any. Is she not eligible?
If she isn’t eligible, should I open an account as I am working? Does it matter which one of us has the account?

Hi Adonis,
As well as the link provided, childcarechoices.gov.uk is a useful one.

If you’re working
You can usually get Tax-Free Childcare if you (and your partner, if you have one) are:
- in work
- on sick leave or annual leave
- on shared parental, maternity, paternity or adoption leave and you’re going back to work within 31 days of the date you first applied
