Is it possible to remove just part of an asbestos ceiling?

I don't think most specialist asbestos removal companies would want the hassle of just removing a small section of board. The cost to them would be very little different to removing the whole of the garage boarding.

Agree with above - get it tested yourself first. Picture isn't clear either way, but assuming it is AIB, then it's gonna be a day's work for 2 or 3 men with 3 stage airlock and decontam. unit, plus disposal of waste. Unfortunately, as they are nailed in it's not going to be a case of just removing them and getting rid.
There's no law to say you can't remove yourself - I'd still get it tested mind. If it's AIB and you treat it as such, wear RPE and minimise dust creation, seal the room, clean up thoroughly afterwards, dispose of as asbestos waste, then you may be fine. I wouldn't do it if I was under 50 years old though.1
