  • Minimal changes, then!  :/ Hardly anything worth mentioning really!
Yes indeed, unless the polls would change for any other reason, looks like a Punch and Judy show for all the summer and a last chance autumn statement with more cheese and biscuits, then a snappy election at a best opportunity to the Conservatives.

So really, just a long Punch and Judy show most of this year and allowing the Conservatives to plan their positions after they get pushed out.

BBC is saying that they are creating a new "British ISA" where you get an extra 5K of ISA allowance if you invest it only in UK equities.

Also they are making it mandatory for DC pension funds to disclose the amount of UK assets (i would have thought they already have to disclose that anyway but perhaps not).

Have they considered the possibility that nobody is investing in UK equities because they have been performing poorly for at least the last 10 years, arguably due to mismanagement of the overall governance of the country and economy? :)

For anyone who wants to read up on the UK ISA consultation. Frankly, I don't see it happening, considering they fully expect the ISA managers to make sure any investments meet the qualifying investment rules and that you can transfer into UK ISA from other ISAs. Still, you won't be permitted to transfer it out of UK ISAs into other ISAs. I reckon it would be a case that a very select few would be willing to offer the UK ISAs.

This was also my first thought - if there is a huge admin burden on ISA providers and not much demand, they just won't have any!

I suppose it effectively makes it a £25k ISA limit. It presumably could be done with say a UK tracker for the £5k and a global ex-UK for the main £20k.

Did they scrap the pension life time allowance in the end?

Good point. Although the UK allocation in a global tracker is typically only in the region of 4% so the effect of the ex in the ex-UK tracker might be subtle.

So, a non-event for current pensioners/retirees, certainly for 24/25 anyway..

Would investing in FTSE, for instance, be a British investment? Would it matter that FTSE companies invest overseas?

Is the date for LTA abolition known?
