Pet insurance - claim or not?

Doggy had a minor op recently.  Total bill £700.  If we put an insurance claim in there is a 20% deduction due to age (8 years) plus the excess so would only get around £500 back.

Not sure whether to claim and risk the future premium increases clawing back the £500 in no time at all.  Or just suck it up and not bother claiming in the hope premiums don’t increase as quickly.

We can afford to not make the claim if it’s the better long term financial option.

What would you do?

If it's Petplan, claim. The premium will not increase significantly. We claimed £9.5K last year (paid 20% plus the excess because of age). Her monthly premium went from £38 to £46.
