PCN - Varley Halls, Uni Of Brighton

Options
I have received a PCN recently from parking at Varley Halls of residence - a student accommodation site for Uni of Brighton, and it has been cited as "unauthorised parking".

I was parked from late at night and left mid-morning the following day.

vvvv letter i received in the post today vvvv

I don't want to pay this charge, however i have recently had one cancelled for parking at the same location, citing the same "unauthorized parking" reason, earlier in the same month by contacting Central Parking (CentralParking@brighton.ac.uk) and making a complaint (one off, valid reason due to staff on campus giving incorrect information regarding a reg plate machine in the main building).

However they claimed this cancellation was a "one off act of good will" so im not sure if it is worth complaining and trying to get the current one cancelled/voided due to this.

UoB have some rules regarding times for non-permit holders (any time for anyone on weekends and between Monday to Friday 17:00 - 06:59 and i adhere to them when i arrive, getting there after 17:00, but regularly leave after 07:00 on Mondays as i had not received any charges for doing so - which lead me to believe i was in the clear this time around, like i usually would be, but evidently not.

what can i do in this situation?

I have read through the entire "newbie thread" as well as other threads on similar parking issues in Brighton, however im still a little confused and would like some help if possible.

Thanks!

Try the uni again. What's the worst they can do?  If no joy, ignore the charge, but come back if you receive a formal County Court claim. No point trying the PPC's appeal route, or the second stage IAS - both will dismiss your appeal.

Sorry, I don't have a magic form of words to use. You will 'know' the people you're dealing with far better than me. Why not just pen a letter as if this is a first time event. If you previously used your full name, use just your initial and surname (or vice versa) in your letter.

Did this second parking event occur in the period before the first event was cancelled by the university?

You could try saying that the events were in quick succession and wonder whether they could extend the gesture of goodwill to include this one too.  Promise them you'll be a good boy/girl in future. 😄

Don't try, don't get.  But it might take more effort to shake it off ultimately.

But if they won't cancel it, IGNORE UKCPM until you move house/flat, in which case you must keep updating them with your new address, so you don't miss the court claim.

Easy to defend and no CCJ risked as long as you NEVER EVER leave them with a choice of addresses for the claim.

Don't risk this again. Park over the road in the unrestricted roads in Coldean (think I'm right you are half way down Coldean Lane?  I pass it when driving to football Park & Ride sometimes).

i don't live at varley halls, i only visit to see my partner over weekends.

ive thought about parking in Coldean but all the roads have signs saying permit holders only or event days only - so ive been hesitant to park there.
