Faulty TV - Outside of Warranty? - Consumer Rights Act 2015

Options
I know a little on the Consumer Rights Act 2015, just looking for some advice.

We purchased a Smart TV from Currys in September 2022 for £279.

In January we started to experience flickering and white lines across the screen making it unusable.

I have a few questions:

1. As the TV is 18 months+ old, is it too long to expect a repair/replacement under the Consumer Rights Act? How long is a reasonable time for a TV to last?

2. The TV is in otherwise perfect condition, has been looked after, no bumps/drops or anything of the sort. So I assume is must be a component issue?

I haven't claimed for anything like this before, so I'm looking for some advice.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

You 1st need to get a 3rd party report on the issue. Hoping it shows a inherent fault.

    No they don't.

They first need to contact Currys and see what they say. Currys might deal with it, or they might come back and claim it's too long ago so it's not their problem any more. If they do, then they'd need to get a report.

    1. It's unlikely to be beyond the reasonable life span of a TV especially as many are sold with 5 or 6 year warranties. Whilst your price suggests its at the more budget end it would also depend on the size of the TV and if you bought a current model at full price or a prior year model thats been discounted.

    2. Assumptions mean nothing and you'd struggle to prove it's not been dropped etc. Similarly electrical surges can cause damage but leave no external trace. Ultimately an engineer needs to look at it, if Curry's play ball then they'll arrange for someone to look at it, if they won't you'll need to and the cost of the report gets added to your claim.

Note that if they decided to refund rather than replace or repair that as it's over 6 months old they can reduce the refund to reflect the use received prior to the fault.

Just to add to what's been said. Those are classic symptoms of accidental damage. Either not moved properly to a TAB fault caused by a knock.

So it's more likely you'll need to prove it's a fault. But speak to Currys first of all.

What brand is it? Some TV's have a manufacturer's warranty of two years, not just one.
Too late to help you now, but if you bought it from a decent retailer such as JL or RS you would have got a 5/6 year warranty.
