Registering the IIP trust

Options
Finally coming to the end of dealing with my father's estate and I need to register the interest in possession trust created by the will.  It gives my mother a life interest in his half of their home (owned tenants in common) then on her death it is inherited by my brother and me.

The government website asks for beneficiaries when registering.  As my mother is the beneficial owner while she lives, is she the only beneficiary I should list at this point, or should I put all three of us down?  I thought it should be all three, but then there's this text on the gov.uk site

Some named beneficiaries will only benefit when a certain event happens, such as when another beneficiary dies. You can include these in a class of beneficiaries until the event occurs. At that point, provide their details on the register as a named beneficiary.

That suggests only providing details of my brother and me on my mother's death, and to declare a class of beneficiaries, but then the definition of classes of beneficiaries says

You can use a ‘class’ of beneficiaries to describe a group of individuals who are not yet known or named individually in the trust deed

but in this case the individuals are known and named, so that doesn't seem to apply.  Anyway, I'm confused and woiuld be grateful if anyone is able to shed some light.

As I understand it your mother is the only beneficiary. The trust forms part of her estate for IHT purpose.

    Thank you, that makes sense.
