Marriage tax allowance

Someone told me today I was on the wrong tax code so I called hmrc who told me I was on the marriage tax allowance code I explained my husband hasn't worked for 5 years due to a stroke and claims pip so I shouldn't be on that code. He said he'll change it for this April but said i can't get a rebate for the last 5 years as it was my fault I didn't change it over but I didn't know I had to as I thought they would know he wasn't working.  Does anyone know if I should be entitled to a rebate as where has my.10% tax gone if my husband hasn't been claiming it?

Not sure there is much you can do here as it would be you who is the claimant - electing for your husband to receive 10% of your personal allowance.

Your husband can claim marriage transfer allowance  to give you 10% of his perwsonal allowance. He can claim back 4 years as well as for future years, if appropriate.
