Hi everyone

I've been driving 15+ yrs as a named driver on my dad's policy but now i have just bought a new vehicle and realised that I dont have any no claims bonus as I didn't realise that it doesn't accumulate as a named driver  it only builds when you are the primary - online quotes are over £1k but it goes lower to £750 if i put £1k excess - which i don't want to do any ideas for reducing 1st time insurance? (This is after adding my dad as named driver).

Can't help with the number plate issue but some insurers to recognise NCD as a named driver but you would have to stay with the company that your dad insured with initially. Have you checked with that insurer to see?

I think what @BoGoF is saying is to ask the current insurers if you took out a new policy with them in your name as the primary driver would they give you some form of introductory no claims bonus to reflect the driving you have been doing whilst as a named driver on dad's policy with them. It is not about adding your car to dad's policy.

Yep I did do a brand new quote with current insurer with me as the primary driver -  they didn't give any discounts, they said they don't offer anything for 0 yrs ncb  :-( quote was £1300.

I can't add my car to my dad's policy anyway they don't do multi car - it's only single car.

What they are saying is have you rung the insurance company your dad's policy was with and asked if they would give you an introductory NCB based on your experience as a named driver. Nothing to do with multicar or adding your car to your dad's policy.

@GrumpyDil - Yes I did that - they don't give any discounts or intro bonuses even as a named driver. Their quote was £1300

I finally bought for £720 with esure as my temp insurance was running out.
