I have an irritating pop-up from MacFee all in $ which I don't seem able to delete. Every few minutes - I go through a couple of screens and the get one which closes it down.
I've changed from Chrome to Opera, running Windows 11 and have AVG.
Suggestions welcome

Have you set your laptop to any security level?
It's in the Control - privacy area.....sorry I only needed to do it once and it stopped pop ups so can't remember but a search for what you have plus security settings should find it.
More exotic help should be on the way.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I run slackware on my laptop (instead of Windows). No software gets on there unless I explicitly install it. No adverts just a clean user experience

Did you at one time have McAfee on your computer then switched to AVG? If so it sounds like you may not have fully removed McAfee, which you can do using their removal tool:I'd also remove AVG too, and use Defender.1

Sometimes bundled with new computers in the hope you will activate it later. Even if you never have it is worh checking as to whether it is on your computer and removing it as per the advice above.0
