British Gas issuing 2 final bills

So I moved house at the start of January, my previous house was supplied by British Gas, we paid via direct debit.

When we informed them we were moving out they then sent the final bill 2 days after our moving date which ended up being in credit and refunded us just over £100.

Since then there has been no communication until this weekend when they send me another final bill saying we now owe them £100. I called up to enquire and was told that because of a known IT issue the January bill was wrong and this was right and I am expected to pay within the next 10 days. I complained but they basically told me that it is what it is and it would be referred to debt collectors if I refuse to pay.

I really don't want to have to pay an unexpected bill like this and I'm really annoyed about the whole thing, what should I do?

What has changed on the 2nd bill? What are the extra charges for? Have they used the correct closing reading you gave them on both bills?

2 days after moving out is very quick for a final bill, it often takes weeks, are you sure it was marked as final and shows the account was closed with a zero balance?

If they have amended the bill, then it's probably correct and you owe the money.

Did you expect to be £100 in credit?

What did you do with £100 if you were not expecting it?

Have you asked them for additional time to pay the amount?
