Thanks. I will listen to his podcast this weekend when I get a chance. We only moved into our house 5 years ago and the smart meter was already there, so it is at least 5 years old but it works perfectly well just now so hopefully it works just as good after a switch.EssexHebridean said:HI OP - the issues with meters losing their smart capability when people switched is to a large degree sorted now, although if yours is about 5years old it may well be a SMETS2 meter in any event - the ones with the issue were the earlier SMETS1 versions. A lot of those are now smart again though, and work is ongoing to upgrade those that aren't.
Martin's podcast from last week has a lot on the energy prices changing, and some useful info which you might find helpful to assist you with making up your mind on what to do, as well.0 -
I tried to check the switching option and it had one for existing customers an another for new customers. when i go to new customers, it says sign up and join the waiting list then it offers me a fix. Can I not switch to an octopus SVT instead of a fix as a baseline before being moved on to the tracker. Thank you.QrizB said:BoyMumItalia said:
okay thanks. Is it easy to switch to Octopus? And is there somewhere I can see the TOU tariff and conditions to see if I qualify? Thank youSpies said:British gas is a rip off, is that helpful?
I spend around 14p a unit on electric and gas Is often around 4p a unit.Octopus Tracker:Recent Tracker prices:https://energy-stats.uk/octopus-tracker-southern-england/ (switch to your own region for more accurate prices)0 -
You switch to Octopus first, then you take the tracker tariff, there isn't normally a wait to change as mine was done the following day after i requested it4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.1

@BoyMumItalia.... It looks like there's a waiting list to join tracker again. Edited to add, I think you'd discovered that already, sorry.
So yes, you could switch to Octopus on the Standard Variable Tariff, then signup and wait...
