Lonelygambler said:Well done and your upcoming trips sound incredible.Tokyo is on my bucket list. Did you manage to see anything?Keep up the great work!
Tokyo was amazing, spent all of my layover exploring. Went to Shibuya district (where the famous crossing is), harijuku, Meiji Jingu shrine, Takeshita street, asakusa, sky tree tower, Tokyo station, the imperial palace and the old Tokyo tower… phew , that sounds like a lot but I’ve still got so much more to see but I’m stocked up on different flavoured Kit Kats to last me the year ! It’s so clean and tidy and everyone is so respectful of others, you can hear a pin drop on the subway for example.
I knew I really wanted to enjoy this trip so i made sure I saved up my trip spending money for this one, I had a Seattle before it (which I have done before so didn’t need to spend much) and was on standby as well; didn’t get used to didn’t spend anything.
i hope you do get to Tokyo, its fabulous !Debt free April 2024 !!

Good evening everyone,
feeling impatient today, I’ve said this in a previous post but I do hate wishing my life away… but I just desperately want to be debt free it feels like time is going backwards…
so, in the spirit of being positive and looking at little victories. Yesterday, I found some old foreign currency notes and took them to the post office and got £31 back!! At this moment in time, that could be £3000. This budget is really making me appreciate the little things in life.
I’m focusing on these little wins to get me through the last bit, I’m constantly logging into my DMP dashboard to see if my latest payment has updated my final amount. I just know it’ll be an anti climax when I do finally get there
one day at a time

A TURN UP FOR THE BOOKS
Well, I’m coming to my diary today ELATED.I have been reading some posts on this wonderful forum about full and final settlements.
for context now , I have 6 debts remaining and I pay £735 for my DMP. The total of 5 of my debts is £135 and the final one is £2196 with CARS. That means I have £600 left over with my usual budget to offer CARS as a full and final settlement, it’s 30% of the final amount but using a template from step change and national debt line… and with advice from YOU fine people, I drafted an email to CARS offering £600 full and final amount which they ACCEPTED.
They accepted it within 10 minutes which shocked me actually, I thought I’d be waiting for at least a week. I will be making my payment on Friday (payday lol) which means my debt free date is 3 days away!!!!
I can’t thank this forum enough for helping me through this journey. Whether we interact directly or not , I’m grateful for all the insight and the advice and information I have learnt. It’s fair to say I was pretty damn illiterate when it came to money and I have learnt so so much on MSE, invaluable lessons and financial info that I’d never have otherwise known.
My DMP has taught me restraint, how to budget and what my body and souls truly needs to survive… and I can tell you that it is NOT shopping and maxing out credit cards and loans. I’m so relieved to be on the other side of it, I’m almost floating with euphoria.
It is worth every bad day , every down day. To anyone on this journey, be kind to yourself, don’t beat your self up and KEEP going because the finish line is there !

Hi @ChampagneSupernova36
Great diary and great result - well done! What are your plans for after your debt is done? Once I became debt-free I found it really tough to treat myself in any way / or spend any "spare" at all.
Subscribing to see what happens next.
Good luck OP. BiB xDF0 -

Good luck OP. BiB xmy plans was always to save as much as possible , first of all an emergency fund !
this is the first time in many years I will have available funds , the reason I got into debt in the first place was living beyond these means but I do feel the same as you , im scared to spend ANYTHING now for risk of ending up back at square one. I hope that means my mindset has changed and I have fully realised what I truly need in life xDebt free April 2024 !!
