Northern ROCK Shareholders EGM 15th Jan

never seen anything so cheeky  , NR board enclosing a sample form of proxy showing how "it" would like the boxes crossed (x)

can someone please confirm if the proxy box is left blank ( chairman appointed as proxy) whether or not the votes will be cast as per how i want them cast or will the chairman effectively be able to use my proxy votes as he sees fit.

My understanding is that they can only "fill in the boxes" which you've left blank.

Any interesting questions - appointing The Badger (no, not the clever/gobby one) and other members of the treasury as non-execs, 3 week share-save to HMG at 2p a pop..?

Thought they all sent out stuff advising you which way to vote (sure I've seen that with quite a few Building Societies).

I'm sure there are notes on the back of the form saying how it is treated if boxes are left blank, already sent mine back...

    this is basically the significance.

imo those who believe that Mr Darling and Co are pulling NR strings ( which wont be in small shareholder interests) should vote FOR resolutions 1,2,3 and 4.

those who are happy to accept whatever shareholder carve up powers that be embark upon should vote against resolutions 1,2,3 and 4

yes boards always give recommendations as to which way to vote, its the issue of a specimen voting form showing where to put the crosses i see as putting it mildly " cheeky"

Looks like the hedge funds won't be in on any carve-up either...

Sure I've had a something similar in the past - might have been the Nationwide (failed) flotation vote. Think they enclosed 2 'sample' voting papers, with headings like "follow this one if you're an amazingly clever chap" and "follow this one if you're a dumbo !!!!head" (may not have remembered that precisely by the way).

in addition nationwide staff was ultra "helpfull" in branches, showing ( and helping) people exactly how to vote, in the case of elderly people who are known to be sometimes forgetfull and shaky with a pen physically ensuring voting forms were both completed and "correctly" completed.

hedge funds have been increasing their stakes in order to increase its influence over NR matters, every vote against their resolutions will imo be a vote for the government to ( pardon the phrase) screw small shareholders.

Wonder where my voting papers are? I'd love to know what bristolleedsfan
regards as "elderly". (I did read once that middle age is twenty years older than you are yourself so maybe "elderly is forty years older). I am 71 and perfectly able to understand and complete a voting form. When I got my free shares there was an offer from Fidelity for them to be put in a completely free ISA. They have the share cert so maybe they have the voting forms too?

no offence was meant or intended,:kisses3: post was intended to illustrate the steps nationwide went to, over ten years ago in its attempts to head off calls for it to demutalise which did include nationwide branch staff helping to ensure those who hadnt voted did both vote and vote the way the board wanted the votes to be made.

I have still got my voting form here, just haven't got around to reading all the stuff that came with it. Is it best just to do as NR say and cross the boxes they show on their sample form? It all sounds so complicated, does anyone have an idiots guide as to what is best?

    Thank you.

my opinion is that its in shareholders interest for the resolutions put forward by the two largest shareholders to be carried.

i believe voting as the board want the votes to go is a vote for Mr Darling  ( because i believe the government is pulling NR strings with the board of NR mere puppets)

i hope the majority of shareholders will vote FOR the first four resolutions.
