Landline calls being charged after 60 minutes - are there any that don't?

As far as called party clear , when the person making the call doesn’t hang up ( accidentally or on purpose ) the person receiving the call , by hanging up does clear the call , not immediately but after a shortish while the call is cleared , the person who made the call , who’s handset hasn’t been replaced properly may get a ‘howler’ sound sent down the line , to alert them that the phone is ‘off hook’

Buy one of these to go with the phone suggested, just put it along the wall, so he doesn't trip over it.

A left-field idea: Get a cheap unlimited calls mobile SIM card (such as RWG £3.50/month) and put it in one of these:
You can even store a local area code so it "behaves" like a landline for outgoing local calls. Will only need a power socket, not a phone socket, there is a push-button version if rotary dial isn't needed. Also offers 5 hours talk time or 1 week standby so means phone line remains even in a powercut (unlike the modern VoIP landlines)
Unfortunately these phone are around £100 to buy online but could fulfil a need.
(there are various SIM card deals/offers available to get unlimited landline calls for next to nothing - I only suggested RWG because it's PAYG outside of the monthly fee so no bill which means no charges can be run up by accidental calls)

Would a bumpon on the button he needs to press to hang up, or alongside the button help? Bumpons are raised stickers to help those with sight problems find the right button. Some examples at the bottom of this link2

iniltous said:There is no 60 minute call limit on BT Unlimited calls plan , the old Anytime plan ( previously the plans available were Weekends, Evenings and Weekends and Anytime ) did have the 60 min limit, but the current plans are PAYG , 700 mins and Unlimited , the Unlimited doesn’t have the need to hang up and redial after 60 mins.Neither does the 700 minute plan ...1

It's only the need to rig up a phone socket near 'grandpa's' chair that's making me hesitate about this. I'm also interested in the advice from others about the latest BT call plans that don't have a 60 minutes limit before starting charging. However that doesn't get round the problem of grandpa leaving the phone 'off the hook' so that no-one else can call him (it also means he can't make another call, if he cannot disconnect the first call). We bought grandpa a big button cordless phone designed for people like him, but he can't master it. Something like you suggest is the answer. Even better, an old-style phone that is cordless!
