Cahoot web site now clearly states that the first tier rates are now as follows
Non Introductory savings 4.85%
Introductory savings 5.30%0 -
It's gone down to 5.3% from today, 23 August. Not a bad rate for instant access (and, if you have a current account alongside, as I have, instant means instant).0

Hi All,
Stuster am I reading this rate change correctly ? My understanding from what you say is that if as me you are receiving an Introductory Savings Rate of 5.65% gross on the first £49.999.00 and 5.10% gross on savings above that these have now dropped to 5.30% and 4.85% respectively. Is this correct ? If it is, have to say its not as bad as I feared and will certainly stay with them for the time being.0 -

"No e-mail here as yet (and none from Egg either) but I've just been speaking to Cahoot about another matter and discovered that they'll be reducing these special rates wef 23/8/5 to:
First 50k = 5.3
Next 200k = 4.8
Over 250k = 4.3
That's a consistent drop of 0.35% on each tier."0 -
Just spoke to Cahoot, the intro savings acc opened between 24th June & 1st September 2004 will have 5.65% applied until the 12 month anniverssary of opening the acc, or today whichever is longer, it will then reduce from the 2nd September 2005 for accs opened up to 1st September 2004 as the 12 month anniverssary has not yet been reached, to 5.3% for the first £50000 then 5.1% up to £250000 the 5.1% is for the amount above the £50000 and not on the whole acc .Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0

How I agree !! Maybe we shouldnt be celebrating a drop in interest rates but as you say today 5.30% is still a good rate.
I have 5 fixed rate bonds 4 of them on 1 yr term and 1 on 18months and they are all above 5% ranging from 5.35% to 5.15%. And with internet savings If I can stay above 5% that suits me for now. I know I am a saver not an investor, I have absolutely zero risk tolerance. Cautious, fearful, wise, or foolish ?0
