Friends taken to court over dog fouling

Hi, this is a question on behalf of a friend. They walked their dog last year, after their dog fouled on a bit of grass next to the pavement, they picked it all up and left to go home. A few days later a man knocked on their door to say their dog fouled outside someone's house and they didn't pick it up, they recon it's on…

So if the case was thrown out, did they get that payment back? I still find that element of someone knocking on the door very dodgy ...
