More weirdness. When I reported this whole episode and cancelled the card, they sent out a replacement and it arrived yesterday. Fine. Totally different card number.
Another card arrived today, with the same card number as the OLD one (well the last 4 digits at least).
Spoken to customer services again, and the only conclusions we can come to is that the card that arrived today was sent out automatically because the old card was due to expire anyway.
Bizarre coincidence though innit?...not entirely convinced. My whole faith in the credit card thing is a bit wobbly now. Thinking of going cash based, maybe....0 -

Plenty of us are now 'cash based' GP - it does work, and you can always get a pre-pay credit card for on-line transactions.
Have a Good New Year. :beer:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Well according to this mornings on-line statement, it all seems to be sorted. Lots of credit adjustments for each of the duplicate transactions, and the figures add up again to what my spreadsheet says it should. Just the original £51.43 fraudulent transaction is outstanding.
Still no sign of the paperwork they promised me to dispute it, but I'm putting it down to the Christmas post backlog...
Whoo Hoo. I can breathe again now.

Aye, it is a relief. I was getting myself all mentally prepared for a long drawn out batch of arguin' and fightin' with them.

As an early christmas present, I had over £1300 taken off my Egg card - including 2 lastminute.com purchases.
Called them up as soon as I saw them and reported it. Old card cancelled and new one with me in about 5 days. Money back to me in about 2 weeks or less.
Very impressed with their customer service.
Had an attempt on my student barclaycard years ago, but nothing went out because they kept trying to amounts higher than my credit limit. Card was cancelled and new one was sent out.
And once it happened with my debit card - £150 paid off to T-Mobile (One2One as it was called then). Filled a form at the bank and they gave it back within a week.
I check my accounts online atleast three times weekly (if not daily). I use my cards all over the place, from supermarkets, petrol stations, internet, gambling sites, etc. But in the last four years, only one attempt on my cards and that was the Egg one - the one that was least used on the internet. So whatever you do, however careful you are, it can still happen.0 -
So, just to recap again...
Fraudulent transaction of £51.43 appears on account, Account suspended,
Another £1,200 appears on the credit card pushing me over limit,
Extra £1,200 is identified as being duplicate transactions, barclaycards fault,
£1,200 of credits are applied to balance to undo their mistake,
New card arrives, I call to activate it and am told about identity theft policy. I say i am not interested, but ask for paperwork 'to look through'. She clearly thinks I said 'ok, sign me up for it!' and £69.99 appears on statement a few days later. Another call, policy cancelled and £69.99 refunded.
Another card arrives, this one with the old card number. I destroy it (after calling them)
ANOTHER card arrives, this one with the NEW number. I destroy it, assuming it to be a duplicate of the first. (numbers and expiry date the same, etc)
Week later a letter arrives, telling me that two card have been sent out in error but only one of them is the right one. To find out which one is the real one, I have to try a PIN change at a cashpoint. The real card will let me change the PIN, the duff one won't.
Sods law, it turns out that the card I had assumed was a duplicate was in fact the real one. I have had to order ANOTHER card to be sent out.
This morning, the £51.43 fraudulent transaction has been refunded to me card.
FINALLY SETTLED (well, when I get the new card through...)0 -

Great news that it's been sorted, GreyPilgrim!
Just check to make sure interest hasn't been applied to the £1200 or the £51.43 or the £69.99 'extra' that was on your account for a while.I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.
