Windscreen insurance claim

In sept 2023, my car windscreen got a chip and the windscreen needed replacing. I used the repairer (National Windscreens) recommended by my insurer and the insurer covered the cost of the repair. Yesterday I discovered a massive water leak coming through behind the rear view mirror which was coming into the car onto the dashboard and electrics. It is a mini electric so I called mini and they came and recovered the car. They called today to say it is due to the windscreen not being fitted properly. Mini have quoted £1300 to refit with a mini windscreen.

I have spoken to the insurer who said I need to make a claim via national windscreens. National windscreen say they will investigate by taking out the windscreen and and will then refit the original windscreen back and ensure it is refitted properly and that is all they are prepared to do (no mention of making good the water damage inside the car) and if I'm not happy with that to speak to the insurer (the insurer then refer me back to National Windscreen). But given the issue I am reluctant to let them refit as they have done a bad job in the first place and feel I should get mini to do the job and claim the cost of the repairs from National windscreen / my insurer.

Any thoughts on the best way forward?

So they replaced or repaired the original? You switch between the two.

5 months following the wettest February on record seems to be a long time for a major problem to appear!
You say they are going to refit the original window? Do you mean refit the same window? Seems a long time for them to be hanging onto your chipped original window.

Have you spoken to your insurers about the damage from the water ingress given NW are only proposing dealing with the windscreen
  • They replaced the original windscreen back in Sept 2023 and last week a major leak started coming through (although the roof inside the car is wet right across the car suggesting it may have been gradually leaking for a while but I've only just noticed it as it was dripping onto the dashboard).  They have offered to refit the same window.

No mention of fixing the damage inside the car so I'll follow that up with the insurers for sure.
