Phantom Gas Usage

My daughter is with Ovo Energy for gas and electricity. She often has to travel away from home for 3-4 days. While she is away, her daily usage of gas should be zero (her electricity usage would never be zero also because she leaves her fridge/freezer turned on while she is away), but it never is! The Ovo app records her daily energy usage and often it shows she uses more gas on days when she out of her property than when she is there. She always switches the heating off completely when she goes away and nobody else lives at her property other than my daughter and her 2-year-old daughter. Naturally she travels with her mummy…or else…no, let’s not go there! So how could her gas usage be higher when she is away from home?

Not with Ovo myself, nor have an app to check actual gas uage, but how do the actual meter readings compare?

Suggestions could be hot water....How's it heated? Is there an anti-microbial/bacterial programme running every so often? Or heated tank being kept to thermostat temperature?
Unlikely now, but is the boiler pump/heating ticking over because it's reached frost temperature?

Theoretically, could be a miniscule gas leak, which isn't noticed during normal occupation as it falls within standard useage, but is noticeable when she's away?

Maybe a little drastic, but next time she goes away could suggest she tries turning the boiler off completely & also the gas supply valve, to check if there's any change in what the app reports, would also be handy to take an actual reading when leaving and when back.

I turn the gas off at the isolation valve whenever I'm leaving my house empty for a few days. I agree that this would be a good way to show whether it's an issue with the meter or with an appliance.
