Carers allowance info

I am in receipt of carers allowance and provide 35+ care for a disabled person who gets DLA care at the highest rate.
I will be migrating to UC from Tax credit soon. I have read online that a person in receipt of carers allowance will not have a work coach,Work commitments or need to look for work.

Ounce I have applied for UC online and done the ID check what will happen when I go into the job centre?

Thank you

  • I can't tell you exactly what happens next but it is correct you won't have any work requirements as a carer.

isn't there a better option of having a carer's element on UC or whatever you migrate too?  I think it used to be that if you had carer's allowance that was actually deducted off your UC so you were not better off with it.  But the carer's element is different as it's in addition to the UC.  I may be wrong but a good thing to ask about.  Also I don't think the carer's element impacts if the person you are caring for get pension credit.  Again something to check.

Carers Allowance is deducted in full, yes.  But it credits class 1 NI contributions and can help if any future ESA claim is required so unless it reduces UC to nil or OP wants to work above the earnings threshold, still makes sense to continue claiming CA.

The carer element is an extra element on UC and has to be claimed to be put in the right conditionality group.

The carer element of UC does still have the same impact on the cared-for person's means-tested benefit entitlement as CA, as far as I know.

So does this mean I will only have 1 initial appointment at the job centre. And not after that I mean will not have work requirements or work coach?
