Parking ticket dispute

I received a PCN for having not displayed a valid parking ticket from trafford Council. I had paid for parking via the Ringgo app, so appealed the ticket stating this. 
They have just responded saying they are rejecting the appeal as we selected the wrong location and it's the drivers responsibility to select the right location. 
I have just checked the the ticket, and I have infact selected the wrong location. I selected the road adjacent to the one we parked on, less than 100ft away. I didn't check the location when we parked as we were walking in thr opposite direction to the parking meter I just selected the one the app told me was closest to me and paid.  
So I understand I have selected the wrong location, however I did pay for parking, so the council that are fining me have already been paid for the parking. 
Is it worth taking it further and appealing their decision? Or do I not have a leg to stand on. Just seems absolutely ridiculous being fined for a mistake in location less than 100ft away when they have received the money for parking!

It is unclear from your post whether you have received a Penalty Charge Notice from the council or a Parking Charge Notice from an unregulated private parking company. (depending on which car park you actually parked in)

Which is it? If it is a Penalty notice then you are best taking this to the Free Traffic Legal Advice forum at https://ftla.uk
