Hello

I have receive NIPS in the post for speeding 66 in a 50 zone on the M25

I have a clean license - but did a speeding awareness course last year

I'm pretty anxious about what my punishment will be.

Anyone know what I can expect? Looking online this seems to be a Category B offence - but think this only applies if this ends up in court, which I hope it doesn't

Some of the fines loom quite hefty too.  Anyone know what I can expect and put my anxiety at rest? Thanks

Since we specialise in dealing with unregulated private parking charges, you would be better taking this over to flta.uk who deal with the police and council motoring problems.

  • The band B penalties are what you would get if your case ended up going to court, you will almost certainly get a fixed penalty of £100 and 3 points on your licence.
  • Thanks - that is reassuring. I hope you are right

    Is that it?  £100??

It really isn't much of a deterrent.  I'm careful to stick to the limits and when I see others get flashed for speeding, I feel confident they'll be royally punished and make sure they don't do it again.

    £100 for doing 70mph in a 50 zone?  As a second offence?  That's pathetic.

Does it not affect their insurance at all?  What if they get caught a third time?  Just another £100?

A fixed penalty is, by definition, fixed, so yes it's always £100.

Anecdotally, the first three points have little if any effect on insurance, but after that it will climb.

In a 50 limit, FPs are offered up to 75.

But if a speeding offence goes to court, for any reason, it's an income-related fine, plus 40% victim surcharge, plus prosecution costs.

If the government wants to print money, they can! They don't need to do so by increasing the fines for offences.
