I had someone call at my door today and they posted a notice through the letterbox saying I have an outstanding debt and to contact them. I was bankrupted in 2002, discharged in 2006 and have not missed a payment on anything in over 15 years. My credit score is in the excellent band. What should I do- ignore them?

  • Ignore your credit score first, before ignoring anything else.

Then check your file to see if anything appears.  Was this 'notice' addressed to you?

Do you owe anything since you were make bankrupt?

Remember statue of limitations & 6 year on debt, although they can still chase.

  • Hi, no, I have never missed a payment on anything after my bankruptcy. My ex-wife took out provident credit in my name in 2009 which she defaulted her payments on. We divorced in 2011 but I cleared that debt off when I was contacted regarding it- nothing since then.

Yes- it was marked for attention of me.

And there is nothing on my file at all. I subscribe to credit expert and there haven't been any searches I'm unaware of
  • Credit expert only looks at Experian. You need to check all three files.

I have a score of over 900 on Clear Score also that gleams info from equifax- I've no missed payments showing there either.

Again, ignore the score. They're just there for fun.

Look at the data on each. Check for the status of any and all accounts.

Don't forget to check TransUnion. (And no, their score isn't real either.. )

All accounts are either doing well or cleared. No judgements showing, no debt collection agency searches showing. I think they are chasing a very old pre- bankruptcy debt. Should I ignore them? No details have been given even to what the debt is.

It'll be too old to show on your credit file.

    Probably a bankruptcy debt.

Did resolvecall say who they were acting for?

Find out, then send that company a prove-it letter
