Why is my Octopus bill so high?

I switched off the electricity at the main meter for 15 minutes. Then switched each major apliance on one by one15 minutes apart.
I am surprised so little energy was used but it does make the £500 pm for electricity seem even more extraordinary0 -
I think you have been asked, and ignored the question about how many kWh you use a year from your electricity bills and make sure they are actual readings.
Also do the bills show a debt that is being paid back as well as part of the monthly payment

The only way people will help you is if you answer how many kwh you have been using per month, what tariff you're on, whether the bills are based on estimates, submitted readings or smart readings (having a smart meter doesn't necessarily mean they are picking up the readings) and whether you have been using more than your monthly direct debit covers......
Until you answer these questions (which take far less time to find out than performing a creep test does) there is no point posting.6 -
It is hard not to take offence at one of the replies that has a reference to an imbecile. Not a pleasant experience and it’s quite unnecessary.
I appreciated the direction from the earlier comments here and I have been consistently polite and appreciative in my thanks. It is a shame that the latest critical and sharp posts only achieve upset and a further lack of confidence from someone struggling in a difficult situation.0 -
If you want real help as to why your expected billing has gone up of late => ask & answer questions on MSE energy board
If you want a love in on how energy prices are so high and how we are all struggling => Mumsnet1 -
This might explain why you are still fighting a subsidence issue for many years, simply answering questions is key when getting to the issues and facts quickly and many here ask those questions as they know once answered they soon lead to the quick answer and conclusion required.
(I also think you have got confused with a reply to you and what is in someone's forum signature...any thing in the line below is a signature not a reply to a post)3 -
As responses descend into personal attacks it becomes far removed from advice. That is unedifying. Thank you to all who gave objective direction. I will not engage any further with this discussion but appreciate what I have gleaned from those who focused on my question without animosity.0

Nobody here can help you if you wont help yourself, without any of the previously requested meter readings/usage,in units, not in monetary amounts there's not really much that anyone can do to best advise you OP.
Plenty of folk willing to help,if they can,if you let them by simply answering the quite reasonable questions asked to do exactly that, there being asked to provide you with help and guidance to resolve your billing problems, not in a pointy finger wagging or judgmental way, simply to get the most basic information to try to assist.
Maybe Citizens Advice,or similar would be worth checking out,do be aware though that they'll likely as not ask the same,as yet unanswered questions as here to be of any worthwhile help, best of luck in sorting this out in whatever manner you choose.

Are you on Economy 7 , readings are being transposed on gen1 meters meaning double the amount per month0
