I'd also cause havoc in the shop and insist on turning them upside down to look at the build. My experience is that it's the quality of this which has most impact on how long you keep hold of a suite for...and I'm afraid to a large degree you get what you pay for.I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0 -
I'd recommend IKEA. Bought a leather sofa from them about 10 yrs ago and it has withstood the kids jumping up and down on it (they were 0 and 2 whne we bought it). Whereas the DFS sofa we got 3 years ago is already sagging.0

We bought 'Kenya' from ScS just before Christmas.
It is the most comfortable sofa we've ever had, and it has a good solid wooden frame (you can see the construction clearly in store as the leather part is fully removeable and just lifts off).
Not the cheapest on the market (and a lot more than we'd normally pay for a sofa), but we know it wears well as BILs new OH has had the same for quite some time, and it still looks as new.
There are quite a few more colourway options than the website suggests, by the wayDFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
wish I had known about this site before.Last week, I purchased a Cassia range sofa £460 from DFS and along came the 5 Year Anti Stain Cover £79,while with the salesman he somehow made me believe it was for any type of damage that would happen to the sofa.He didnt advise me to read the Terms and Conditions that was on the back of the contract. And its only when I got home that I read the whole thing and realised it wasnt covering anything I thought it was.I now called them today but the Manager said it couldnt be amended.I am feeling cheated and I'm a student on a lower budget.
Please someone advise me on what to do,to get my money back.I still want the sofa but not that Anti stain cover
All non business insurance policies sold to UK residents must have a 14 day cooling off period during which time you can cancel for a full refund as long as no claim is made. I assume the Anti Stain Cover is a type of insurance (check your documents).0 -
Just ordered from John Lewis, our last sofa from them has lasted 18 years, still looks good..They have a wide range..0

You might like to give SofaSofa a try http://www.sofasofa.co.uk/, had a fabric sofa from them a few years back and still comfy, frames made from hard wood.Plenty of info on site, only show room is in Cardiff and I think they sometimes exhibit in London & B'ham.Have another sofa from IKEA (cheap-bargin corner)DD jumped on and broke it.Fixed it, but it was very cheaply made.0

We used to sell the anti stain stuff for cars. Its both a product AND an insurance. For the cars we charged £400 and for that you got a scotchguard treatment on the inside and a special polish on the outside. The inside stuff was supposed to protect from drinks, lipstick, etc, and the outside from rain, and tree sap.
The warranty that comes with it is separate and basically covers you only for recoating the car with stuff again. It doesnt pay for paintwork or anything else and really just means that the £30 product they have charged you £400 for can be reapplied a second time if it doesnt work the first time.
The reason the salesman is being an !!!! is because he gets paid 50% on every upsell he can do. A good salesman will make far more from selling the upsells than the original product. If you go in the managers office you will usually see a board with their names and lots of ticks.
Your problem is you have signed an agreement and they will wave this in your face. Inform them by letter you wish to cancel within 14 days. They will day the product costs £50 and return £29 for the insurance.
If your really !!!!ed off (I have seen this done) get someone to mystery shop the retailer and deal with the same person. But covertly record the conversation. He will use the same patter and effectively break the law.
Have seen one or two customers pull out dictaphones or mobiles when sat in the managers office with a salesman who swears he went through the whole agreement. They always got a full refund.
You cant afford to cut corners with anything to do with insurance or FSA. Unfortunately companies pay peanuts, employee monkeys, and then wonder why someone on minimum wage has failed to grasp all the details of consumer law, and FSA regulation when they had a whole 20 minutes of training on it.0
