Maybe start with telling us what your objection is, and we can then debunk it.2

Are they telling you that your electric meter is at end of life and requires replacing, then yes you have to let them install a new meter.
I.e. see this thread "http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6509148/eonnext-at-it-again-with-end-of-life-meter-tactics-for-exchanging-to-a-smart-meter/"
If they're just asking you if you want a smart meter installed, and you don't then no.

Ultimately, yes you will eventually have to.Whether you can put it off for an indeterminate amount of time will mostly depend on your chosen energy tariff and/or the certification period of your current meter. If you’re on a tariff that requires your agreement for a smart meter to be installed or if your current meter has expired (Octopus should say if this is the case) then you will have to get one, otherwise you can politely decline for the immediate time being.Moo…1

Your meter maybe approaching end of life - in which case they are legally obliged to replace it - and Ofgem/ govt changed guidance so that in that case that will almost inevitably be Smart.
At other suppliers many of their fix deals for instance now have smart meter conditions to encourage acceptance.0 -
Smart does have benefits]
1) Refund of £10 from the Load Reduction scheme - just use as little for an occasional hour
2) Solar benefit expected to be £30/40 this yearNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

2) Solar benefit expected to be £30/40 this yearWith a smart meter, one can take advantage of the Agile or Tracker tariffs - I'm currently saving around 30% by being on the latter over SVR.Also get the opportunity to take part in the saving sessions - Whilst the rewards are not spectacular, I've managed to clock up £4 over the last month or so. Enough to buy a coffee or two.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

do i have to comply with this request? Why would you not want a smart meter? Especially with Octopus and their occasional "free hour" giveaways or where they pay you to use less (which you don't have to do but if you do, you earn from them).

It bothers me not your objections to having a smart meter but realise not having one can mean you miss out on massive savings on your energy.
Savings hundreds of pounds a year especially with your current supplier Octopus.0 -
I find it hard to understand why anyone would join Octopus and not want a smart meter. The money you can save on their smart tariffs is their main selling point. You don't even need anything like solar, batteries or an EV to benefit. I pay around half the SVT price on the Agile tariff.01oddball said:I have been with octopus for 3 years + now they mant to install a electricity smart meter ?1
