Car Repair outside of Warranty

Options
I purchased a Seat Ibiza 2019 plate on 22.05.23 from Seat Darlington who are an approved used seat dealership. 3 days later on 25.03.23 the EPC light came on. The car was then booked back in at Seat Darlington on 02.06.23 and said the issue had been resolved. The issue started again in September 2023 but was intermittent and the EPC light would go off if I turned the ignition off then back on. The car was then booked in for a service on 20.01.24 and I mentioned the issue to the staff member who said because it was a Saturday they couldn't look at it. On 25.2.24 & 26.02.24 the EPC light came on mid drive so I immediately contacted Seat Darlington and it is now booked in for 05.03.24 for them to look at it.

My question is, Even though the warranty was only for 3 months, will any costs incurred now be void as it is the same issue as when it initially got looked at and clearly was not fixed properly?

Thanks

  • Only the dealership can tell you that. The issue was resolved, albeit for 4 months,

  • I assume the EPC light can come on for a variety of reasons. Whatever it came from previously may not be the cause of it being displayed now

There are dozens and dozens of reasons why the EPC light comes on but one of the most common reasons is a brake light fault.
The brake light switch can be dodgy or the signal load wire can break and if there's no brake signal to the cars ECU, it lights up the EPC.

It's an easy check, just get someone to push the brake pedal (ignition on) while you stand behind and check the brake lights come on.
(sometimes if the switch fails they can get stuck on)

For anything else, it needs the ECU read with a diagnostic tool to see what it's complaining about.

If it's the same issue, the original repair should have been under some sort of warranty, often 12 months or 12,000 miles (which every is soonest).
They'll charge you for the diagnostics first though, you'll be expected to pay for that if it's outside of warranty and obviously any repair they do.

If it's the same part they fixed back in June 2023 and you haven't done more than 12,000 miles, it should be covered.

I guess it's a bit late this time around, but you would be far better finding a local VAG specialist.
Someone who repairs and services VW's, Audi's, Skoda's and Seat's.
They are a popular so nearly every town will have at least one independent VAG specialist and their labour rates tend to be much lower.
