Hairline cracks on extension ceiling

I have a property with a one storey rear kitchen extension. Has 4 velux windows in it. Property left empty unoccupied over winter. Have returned to find multiple hairline cracks in the plaster. basically every single velux horizontal border has some kind of associated hairline crack, ie 8 in total Extension was built 12 years ago and up until these few months only had 2-3 cracks.
Is this due t the property being left empty and too cold/ too dry ?too wet?. I have read hairline cracks are common in new build homes but do I need a structural engineer to have a look?

We have lived in a house for 40 years with hairline cracks where an extension has been built; The crack runs the whole length of it through from the kitchen to the lounge. It has never got any worse, there are none on the walls. we do not worry about it anymore0

You do 't need a structural engineer at all.All houses move, that is fine at the moment. If you can fit a pound coin in a crack then you'd think about that then.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
