Car Wiper Blades (and JML Wonder Wipers)

Hi All ;)

I'm looking for some wiper blades for my Almera - the dimensions are 21" Spoiler (driver side) and 19" (passenger side).

The set I have fitted at the moment are around 12 months old and are a Bosch set from Halfords. I paid £22.95 for them but am a little disappointed at having to replace them again and so soon, as I had the original Nissan blades for over 3 years without replacement

I've looked in Halfords and they are still quite pricey, but does anyone have any ideas/advice for me?

I noticed some "Wonder Wipers" from JML on this site: JMLDirect.com for £4.99, but as it's 10% day in Homebase today, I thought I may pop over and get a set today if anyone here has had this particular brand before and liked it :T

Thanks in advance

Thanks for that. Had a look at their website but I'm still pondering about the JML Wonder Wipers as they are way cheaper. Also I'm not too keen on Bosch anymore as I emailed to complain about the short life of the wipers and never got anything back - not even an acknowledgement. I don't use the car very much anyway (~6000 miles per annum) so I would expect such "premium" blades such as Bosch to wear out so quickly

Have you heard anything good about the JML Wonder Wipers? For the price they are I'm expecting to have to take them back for a refund like I did with "Magic" wiper blades from Poundland
  • Been using a set of JML wipers for over 6 months now on my Citroen Xsara, no complains so far. Do about 25000 miles a year, so they seem to be good value so far.

What are the JML wipers like in terms of actually moving water off windscreen? Do they smear at all or do you have any concerns/regrets about getting them?

Also do they actually include the wiper frame or is it just the rubber blade? If just the rubber blade, is it tricky to fit to the current frames?

My wiper sizes are 21" and 19" so I'm guessing the JML wipers are of that or longer length?

If anyone has had problems with JML wipers, please say so now!! :T

Champion or Bosch are considered to be the best of the blades, you can buy, generally.

& if more people did change them anually, maybe they'd be able to see a bit better, when it rains!!

& a tip to think on, clean the actual blade, with neat screen wash or whatever glass cleaner you use, on a tissue paper. You'll be surprised how much black residue comes off. & dry the screen with newspaper.

Don't forget the inside glass surface, too!

Is it normal to replace even the expensive blades annually?

btw, I am not buying Bosch on principle because their company couldn't even be bothered to reply to my complaint.

halfords dont only do the bish wipers and there halfords brand, they do a 'rubber refill, aswell. here, you only change the 'rubber blade' its self, not the whole wiper blade, not too keen on these but its an option.
it costs around £6.50 for a pair

Halfords' wipers weren't very good on our car as our windscreen is one of the newer curved ones instead of the straight sheet of glass type. Because of this, the blades wouldn't wipe on the edges so after a major argument with Halfords and their store manager, I had to swop for Bosch and pay the difference as they won't refund.

Apparently, according to Halfords, wiper blades 'don't carry a warranty'. Heh.

Replace blades as standard item on Jaguar anual service.

But beware of asking for it to be done, if you use some dealers. I recall the story of a Renault dealer, more than happy to oblige.

    Blades £10 each or whatever + 15mins labour @ £$£$£$£$£$ / hour equivelant!!!

I'd NEVER think of adding the extra time to a customers bill!!

I dont use our car much about 4,000 miles per annum but tend to replace blades after a year. I now put stuff on the screen which keeps it clear of water and is quiet good.

I paid an extra £1 for blades to have the plastic wind thing on so it sticks better to the screen. Quiet happy with Bosch they appear to have a double blade on them
