Company Share Scheme

Hello, looking for some advice.
I was in a company scheme that eventually resulted in me receiving shares. This was a long time ago, over 30 years ago.
If I sold them would I be liable CGT.
I'm think of rebuying them and putting them in a Share ISA.
Any help welcome.

The shares are paper shares, also for a few years I took extra shares instead of dividends.0

Yes you would be subject to CGT when you sell them. I can't remember what the limit for CGT is (I think there is some tax free but may be wrong) but depending on your overall income and tax bracket there may be some benefit in selling some in this tax year and some in a couple of months time.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. The CGT threshold for 2023/24 is £6K but this halves to £3K from 6 April.
OP - do you have records of the values of the shares at acquisition, or can you work it out from public domain data?1 -
No I don't. The shares just sat in a draw for years. Cashed in a few along the way 🙂. I think they were about £5 in the 90's zoomed up to £40ish+. Now about £22. (BAT.CO ).eskbanker said:The CGT threshold for 2023/24 is £6K but this halves to £3K from 6 April.

I thought that every year the CGT lessened to account for inflation, obviously not..0 -
This used to be true ('indexation') but for individuals was done away with in 2008.jayell said:
