Excursion unattended

I recently booked an excursion with a company directly online for myself and friend, paying a 30% deposit. The day before my friend hurt her leg so we informed them that she couldn’t attend but I still would. On the day I was asked to pay for both, whereas I thought we’d just lose my friends deposit.
Their website only advised that they take a 30% deposit which was fully refundable up to 72 hours prior to the hike. No mention of the full payment.
Do you think I should have been made to pay full price for both?

Possibly. I presume that given the very short notice, they had no chance to fill the space left by your friend, so no wy of minimising their losses. That would be why the 72 hours clause is there - they are confident that in the worst case, they'd have three days to find a paying customer to fill the space.annaexplores said:I recently booked an excursion with a company directly online for myself and friend, paying a 30% deposit. How many walkers were in the party? Any sign they did manage to fill your friend's space? If so, then they shouldn't have charged you the full cost.1 -
If the company was happy with the amount paid, I wouldn't be chasing to pay more. If they come along later and say they want payment, do it then.

That’s a fair point. The spot wasn’t filled, so I think he struggled to fill it.Aylesbury_Duck said:

They can seek costs or loss of profits but not both, I guess it's a bit late now as the bill is paid and the profit on something like this might be a large %, depends if this was £50 pp or £500pp as to whether it's worth pressing.

Thanks everyone. I agree, it’s paid and in fairness he couldn't/didn’t fill the spot in time, so he would have lost costs due to our late cancellation 👍🏻1
