I ordered safety trainers online and when they arrived I tried them on and they didn't feel to bad so I took them to work and after 4 hours my both feet started hurting but my right foot felt like something was pressing in to the bottom of my foot but I thought it was the shape and thickness of the insole so I carried on wearing them but after 12 hours I felt like I could cry from the pain. I then tried the shoes for my next two shifts but I still could feel pressure on my right foot so I tried my insoles from my old work shoes and I still could fell something pressing in to my foot so I removed the insole and checked the inside of the shoe and I can feel a lump so would I be able to return them after wearing for four twelve hour shifts.
Unlikely unless there is a fault with them it may be part of the style and they all have it. They can't be resold if they've been worn outdoors. You should have tried them around the house
  • If there's a lump in one shoe that isn't there in the other then that sounds like a fault. I'd contact the seller and see what they say to start with.
  • As I understand it, you can return an online order within 14 days of receipt, but that in cases like yours, the retailer can make a deduction for use that goes beyond what you could have done in a shop, i.e. walked up and down for a bit.

However, what you've described sounds like a fault with one of the shoes, so I'd approach the retailer on that basis, rather than on a change-of-mind basis.

Shoes like that I only ever wore the new pair for half a day max at work until they wore in / my feet got used to em. I brought the old ones in and changed at lunchtime - Ah the relief of comfy old shoes!!

If they're faulty then yes you can return them.

I did this with some safety shoes - the back of one of them had quite a bump that ripped the skin of my heel and was so painful. After a week I realised it wasn't just a breaking them in thing and that something was digging into my heel. I exchanged them for another pair which were fine.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

It does depend somewhat on the type of shoe... thick leather boots were an hour or two around the house initially, with a double pair of socks. Moving on to a few hours out the house etc building up to full time wearing. Once they are finally broken in though... can walk 20 miles in a day in them without a problem and some are now 15 years old and look as good as, if not better than, new.

Safety boots come in a wide range of guises... seen some that look just like nylon mesh walking boots but with a steel toe. Not all should take breaking in.

As to the OP's question, it's easier to argue the fault issue than change of mind. Can you actually feel the "defect" if you put your hand in the shoe or just on your foot?

I contacted the place I bought them from and this is there response.

As the item has been worn I will pass this information over to our Dropship team. They will get in touch with the supplier to see if this is a fault with the item. Would you prefer a refund or a replacement? I cannot guarantee either a replacement or a refund will be issued but I can certainly pass your preference along.

    That's fair.

Although, I don’t see how they can see if there is a fault with the item unless the shoes have been returned (or at a minimum have had photos of the pair the OP received.) An entire batch are unlikely to all be faulty, but a small number could be.

When they have been worn the choice of refund or replacement resting with the retailer is fair.
