I have secondary breast cancer it's in my bones so as much as I want to I am unable to work. I'm getting minimum payment from university credit and can't get PIP or disability allowance as apparently I am not "ill" enough! I'm struggling and it's adding more stress! Any advice would be appreciated

You'd be better posting in the Benefits section rather than Insurance1

Any advice would be appreciatedIf you’re current going through treatment for cancer or expected to go through it within the next 6 months then this would mean you automatically qualify for LCWRA. https://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/universal-credit-uc/uc-faq/limited-capability-for-work-related-activity#:~:text=LCWRA%20descriptors,reasonably%2C%20be%20worn%20or%20used.&text=(ii)%20repeatedly%20mobilise%2050%20metres,of%20significant%20discomfort%20or%20exhaustion.2

Were you scored any points from the assessment?
Did you get any help with the application?
Do you understand how it's assessed?
If yes to either of those two, did you challenge the decision and how far did that go?
Lots of people get the wrong decisions to start with, however PIP is a high bar so there are people who are ill who genuinely don't reach the threshold. But for secondary bone cancer I'd have thought potentially the fatigue and pain along with any treatment side effects would likely score enough points across the activities for at least a standard daily award.1 -
Unfortunately I have had to claim PIP under the terminal illness rules as I have recently been diagnosed with Advanced Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and been told I'm not likely to survive more than 12 months(it was missed because I was too busy caring for my partner with mental health issues to see a GP until my spleen nearly ruptured). If you have severe side effects of chemo like fatigue and not being able to look after yourself you may get an award under normal PIP rules.2

Go to your GP or consultant and ask for a DS1500 or SR1. If terminal and less then 12 months PIP should be automatically paid, with no assessment.Proud to have dealt with our debtsStarting debt 2005 £65.7K.

Have you been awarded the LCWRA element on UC? If not, get a DS1500 from your consultant/GP and give it to UC.0
