Associating text file with a jpeg (to explain the jpeg).

Before I ask this question, I'm talking here about Windows 10 or 11 mainly. So, please, no suggestions about mobile apps.
I've been doing some genealogy stuff recently and I've found lots of information, which I've downloaded in the form of jpegs. I've grown tired of explaining the "subject/source/possible likelihood of connection to my family" within the title of the jpegs.
I want to be able to store the search source of the jpeg and other associated information and I want family, to whom I may send these jpegs, to see easily 'see' this information also.
So I'm wondering, is there a way to create a sort companion text file, that's linked to the jpeg and that will travel with it and that can be opened easily to see the explanation of the jpeg?
I know I can create a text/Word file and embed the images within that and include explanations, but that's not exactly what I mean.
Is it something obvious, which I'm missing? Thanks
