Exit Fee
Hi All,
I moved home in late September and the vendor had a fixed gas tariff with Scottish Power. Scottish Power have said that an exit fee applies to the account. But how can an exit fee apply for a tariff that I myself didn’t sign up for?
Does anyone know the legal position? I don’t have a DD with them by the way, I pay my bills in full.
I think I will be wanting to switch tariff when prices reduce in April.
Thanks all.

should be on a standard tariff under your name, unless you signed up for a fix
what rate is on your bill
and most firms have already applied the new rates0 -
When did you open the account in your own name and what tariff was offered when you did so ?
What tariff appears on your online account and bills ?0 -
what did you do when you moved in and signed up with them, you should have opened a new account but from your wording it looks like you just took over the previous account - which doesn't sound right at all.0

I advised Scottish Power of my moving in date and they just put me on the existing contract, no agreement or sign up on my part. Obviously I’ve paid a few bills since. With the prices as they were it wasn’t an issue but I won’t want to pay above the capped rate from April. The fixed rate contract appears on my bills. I wasn’t offered any alternative.0

You do need to ask them to confirm that they created a new agreement with you, not put you onto the existing agreement, which is what it sounds like they have done.
If they have put you onto the existing agreement hey need to unwind that as start you a new one from your moving in date.

Whose name is on the bill?

My name is now on the bill Gerry1

and what tariff does it say your on0

Surely the time to argue whether you wanted a fixed tariff or not was when you moved in and were put on one
It sounds like you are not happy with it because it doesn't suit. If the cap was increasing in April I'm guessing you would have been happy to remain on it0
