Faulty product via Currys

The oven will be considered by Currys and probably by the manufacturer also as beyond economic repair. Consider how much it would cost to send an engineer out to diagnose the fault, then the cost and time to obtain the spare parts and return to fit them. That is assuming the parts are available. The offer of £107 would go nowhere near covering those costs.

Except, with regard to the 9-15 years, the OP seems to have offered to Curry's the lifespan of 6 years under "the 6 yr rule". If that is what was said, or understood, it is maybe not so easy for the OP to return to Curry's and say they now consider the life span of a combi microwave to be 9 - 15 years rather than the 6 years initially indicated.
I'm not sure but I think AEG is a half decent brand so if OP went back asking for £325 and walked away with £250 that's still at the lower end of the 9-15 years.Okell said:Might a microwave combi oven have a shorter lifespan than a generic oven/cooker/hob?
It's unclear if Currys are expecting to have the oven back, I can't comment on whether OP is experiencing a fault but it would seem odd to me that Currys would say it's beyond repair and offer some money if it were clear cut there's nothing wrong with the oven.
Maybe the £100-odd was "go away" money from Curry's. Certainly, if the £100-odd is the pro-rata for 6 years lifespan, then Curry's are not going to send anyone to look at this as it won't cover the call-out fee, so "not repairable" could mean "not economically repairable" irrespective of whether the OP assesses that a repair could be technically feasible.0 -
I would have thought around £160 would be closer to the value they should be offering, based on its between 5-6 years old
What model is the microwave?0 -
OP said the new cost was £650.
If the lifespan was indicated "the 6yr rule" at 6 years and the device is 5 years old, that is 1/6th remaining so £108.0
