Social Housing - queue positions

Hello all
We are currently private renting. We were accepted onto the Register based on High Medical needs for one of our children. We have been in queue position 4 or 5 for most of them since the last month or so. Prior to that we were below 10
My question is, were you offered a house when at queue position 4 or 5 or was it only when you were at position 1? How long did it take you once you were in the top 5?
Thanks in advance

Varies on many factors, location, demand etc.
those who are 1,2,3 etc will have to have declined before issued to someone who is nos 5. Hopefully you get something soon.0 -
Yes!
I bid on a property and the system placed me at number 4 after the bidding closed.
The housing department moved me up to number 2.
Number 1 then dropped out because they found somewhere else, then I was offered a viewing and first refusal, I accepted the property.4 -
Glad to hear you have got social housing. Hope it goes well for you.0

I was number 1 on one house and a last minute bidder came in and knocked us back as they had a priority card.
The house we ended up with we were number 3, our housing officer told us he moved us to first place due to the number of issues with our home at the time.Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

I moved in 20 months ago and have been very very happy ever since. Living somewhere more suitable for my health makes such a difference and I was well overdue to leave my mums.
With my banding I was expecting to wait 2-3 years but the offer came after 13 months. The medical points really made a difference.1 -
My HA do not tell you what place you are on the bidding system. I think that's a good thing because you are none the wiser about what position you're in. I put my name down on the list in April 2023 and was placed in band D. In August 2023 I was moved up to urgent medical priority due to needing adaptions that couldn't be done to the privately rented house I was living in, so it was no longer suitable for my needs.
I placed 5 bids on 5 houses. First week of December I had a phone call offering me a property that I bid on 4 weeks earlier. I viewed it the following week and accepted it. I signed the tenancy agreement on 18th Dec and moved in on 13th Jan. I have a walk in shower, with hand rails and a seat. They also fitted a new stairlift 2 weeks ago.
I love my new home, which is in a lovely area and also have lovely neighbours. I feel very lucky and still can't believe it's my home.
I hope you're not waiting too long.3 -
Thanks all for taking the time to reply and sharing your experiences with me
it's been an interesting read and especially learning that once the system has shortlisted, an officer will go through the list and move things around based on needs/priorities which makes sense! I hope I am not waiting too long either

My local council will often invite numbers 1-5 (sometimes 10) to view together as they know some will be no-shows or turn the property down. I can understand that but must be super demoralising if you're looking at what you hope will be your new home but the person next to you says 'yes please'1

Mine invites numbers 1-3. Covid rules still applied when I was offered mine in 2021, viewings only offered if you were number 1.1
