Excess Car Insurance

Hey everyone,
First time poster here so I hope I'm doing this right.
I'm renting a car in the UK in a couple of months time. Reading the advice, I've turned down the excess insurance and did a search on Moneymaxim. I'm minded to simply go with the cheapest one, but I notice all of them (that I spot looked at) exclude damage to the inside of the car. Hopefully I won't need any type of insurance, but with my driving record I think I'm far more likely to spill a cup of coffee on the inside than to smash up the outside. Is this just the way it works? If so, maybe I shouldn't even bother with excess insurance?
Anybody have any views or advice? Thanks.

If you spill coffee, you can just clean it up. But even if you’re a perfect driver, you can’t completely rule out eg someone hitting the side of the car with a car door - which is the sort of thing that can end up very expensive0

Well, it can't be more expensive than the excess on the car policy of course...0

You could avoid drinking coffee in the car to avoid spill damage.0

Hah, this is true.sheramber said:You could avoid drinking coffee in the car to avoid spill damage.
I just wanted to see if it was standard that damage within the car is usually not covered - and it seems it isn't, which I think is a bit odd!0
