Mistake on probate application. What to do?

Hiya

As the title said, I've made an error on the probate application for my mother's estate where I act as the executor.

Very careless of me, but I put it through as an excepted estate. However, I've now realised that my mother had a life insurance policy that pays out to her children and also had an annuity.

the value of the estate means that it still comes in below the value of IHT, but I'm just wondering what my next steps should be. How can I amend this?

Comments

  • Except where payments continue for a spouse, annuities cease on death so do not form part of the estate. If, as likely, the insurance policy was written in trust then again it does not form part of her estate.

In any case as long as a mistake does not impact IHT or the need to do an IHT return you don’t need to do anything.
