Can my partner be added to my employer health insurance if he's already insured with own employer?

So I have health insurance through work with Aviva (family plan), he has an individual plan through work with Bupa. Is there any legalities I need to be aware of for adding him as a named member on my insurance too? My policy covers more. Thanks.

Not a legality but it would normally increase the cost of the policy and so you will pay more BIK tax

There is no issues with having two policies but when making a claim you'd need to let the insurer know of the existence of the other policy. Not done a lot of research into the finder detail of PMI policies across the market but looking at a random Bupa policy earlier today it states it will share the costs with the other insurer.

It's generally not cost effective to pay for two different policies so if one is clearly better than the other would seem sensible to stop the lesser one and save the money. Obv could be complications if the relationship didnt survive or employment changed and new medical conditions have arrived in the interim.
