Hi all I have shopped around to obtain a cheaper car insurance to start 6/3/2024 I have been successful.saving money for the same cover, So i chatted to an advisor with my current insurance Co via a Chat service on line as unable to speak to someone on the phone, explaining I would not be renewing my policy with them giving them notice & asked for confirmation of my request, I have not received this , just an email stating my policy has not been cancelled. That's not what I asked for have I done the right thing???

If your existing policy is in effect until the 6th of March, then they are right that it won't be cancelled right now, it should expire at its end date as normal. The only thing that should be cancelled is any form of auto-renewal if you agreed to that when you started the current policy. You don't have to inform them that you are going somewhere else - you just have to make sure they don't have credit/debit card details on file to auto-renew. You may also need to ask for proof of NCD if your new company needs it - although it seems most companies can pick up the NCD entitlement without the need for it.

Sounds OK, but if no conformation arrives in the next couple of days I'd contact then again just to confirm you don't wish the policy to renew.Sherebabe said:Hi all I have shopped around to obtain a cheaper car insurance to start 6/3/2024 I have been successful.saving money for the same cover, So i chatted to an advisor with my current insurance Co via a Chat service on line as unable to speak to someone on the phone, explaining I would not be renewing my policy with them giving them notice & asked for confirmation of my request, I have not received this , just an email stating my policy has not been cancelled. If you're still shopping around, it might be worth looking at going via topcashback. Their car insurance searches are giving £45 cashback.
