Which accounts?

Currently have about 11.5k in one current account. Thinking of moving 10k of that to a savings account but with what bank? My current account is with Santander. Anyone got any recommendations?

You could do a switch to Ulster Bank, get your £200 bonus and their savings account pays 5.20% on savings over £5000

Most of that goes over my head. I find this all quite confusing.

That sounds good. Easy app to use?

Very easy. I have used NatWest for years and I find their app very very good. It’s the same format. I’ve just switched our joint to RBS for the money. That’s also the same.

The Flowchart - UKPersonalFinance Wiki might be an alternative approach to help you identify what you're actually looking for?

Do you want to keep your current account with Santander or are you interested in switching that as well? Some savings accounts need you to have a current account but you don't necessarily need to switch everything - I've applied for one with a debit card but no overdraft which gives me access to a better range of savings accounts with Nationwide, where I was already a member and long term saver, and my family has various accounts. I'm keeping my longstanding existing HSBC current account for the moment because it's seen me through some difficult recent financial history quite well, but have some decisions to make about a smaller savings account.

Do you want to earn the best possible rate of interest?

Do you want to be able to take money out any time in case you need it quickly, have reduced access for a higher rate or to reduce temptation. Would you like to be able to add to your savings? Do you have any particular savings goals or particular purpose in mind? Do you want to move it all to one savings account or split it between easy access and something with higher rates but more conditions, in the same or different bank/building society/company?

I see you're asking about apps associated with accounts - so are you happy with app-only, app and website, or would you like to have the backup of being able to visit a high street branch?

Those are questions that you need to answer for yourself whether or not you post your responses here, to help decide what savings account is best for you.
