Changing Supplier - credit on account

I have switched supplier and will now be paying around £150 instead of £200. I am currently in credit with my current supplier and still will be by the end of the month, on a smart meter and keep a close eye on it.
My new supplier wants to take the 1st DD on the 1st March, but so will my old supplier (who will take £200), I cannot afford to have both taken out on the same day, so should I cancel my DD with the old supplier and just claim a refund pro rata when they finalise the bill? Or will this cause problems?

Are you sure the old supplier will take a DD on March 1st when you are no longer their customer ?
Generally its best to leave the DD in place so that the credit has be returned.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
The change date is 1st, so would guess OVO will still take the cash as I don't thing their systems will catch up in time (they have not been the best supplier)..If the world is a stage... I want better lighting!0

I think its likely that the DD will be called off - it may already be in the system and may well be too late to cancel.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1

Ask the old supplier to change the DD to £1. If you cancel it they'll jack up your unit prices from the day of cancellation.1

Ask your bank to return the DD if it is taken. If you explain you have changed supplier it shouldn't be a problem for your bank to do that.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Do you have at least £200 credit with the current (outgoing) supplier? If so I don't see how they could object to you cancelling the DD at your end.0

This is the some text from the email I have just got from them:
Your timeline of what’s next
It could take up to 10 weeks to wrap everything up. Meanwhile, we’ll keep your Direct Debit running, so you might see more payments going out to cover your energy during this time.
Even on their projection to the end of the month, the online accounts says I will be in credit with them! Really do not want £200 coming out as well as the other payment, I have just started a new job that is £7k less salary than before so £200 is a large amount to lose!
May have to call them and tell them not to take anymore.
