TMD hosting refusing to give me back the amount I'm in credit

Hi,

Over the last 5 years I was using TMD hosting to host my website for my (very) small business.  I have now stopped my business and cancelled my hosting, which was fine and no problem.

When I bought the initial package, using my card through Paypal (yes with hindsight I would not have used Paypal),  I hadn't realised that a recurring payment had been set up in the background and twice a payment of USD47 was made from Paypal to TMD hosting, which is now sitting as a credit of USD94 in my account with them. I didn't think this would be a problem at the time. All recurring payments are now cancelled.

When I cancelled my hosting with TMD, I asked for my credit to be given back to me.  I was told that as the credit came from my bank account via Paypal and it has been >180 days since the transaction, they cannot refund the money.  They tell me that their system is such that refunds can only be made using the method the money was received by them.  They tell me not to worry because I have the credit for future purchases.

I do not plan on creating another website any time soon and would like my money back.  I find it hard to believe that they can't send me a Paypal payment and that as an IT company their payments system is so inflexible and restricted that they can't process a credit as an ad-hoc transaction.  I suspect that this is a sneaky money-making thing, but hey.  I have messaged the company using their ticket system, keeping my wording very professional and friendly,  and I've requested that the agent escalate my query/complaint to his manager.  I'm waiting on a response.   I get it that my ignorance on the recurring paypal payments is my fault and if I had been aware of the impact of not using the credit up I would have done things differently.  Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I'm wondering if it's worth pursuing this and if anyone else has had anything similar?
