Barclays Closed my account

Hi All,
Long story short, Barclays has just closed my account, with no warning or explanation! In doing so they cancelled all my direct debits and told me I must go into a branch to collect my money. I find this utterly shocking, they say it is under their terms and conditions, but I find it incredible, that they didn't even suspend it, they just closed it, and didn't even tell me. I had to phone them to find out what was going on!
I have raised a complaint with them, but doubt it will get me anywhere. To be fair I only opened the account for the switch bonus, but this has been such a pain, I really don't think it was worth it!

They will probably send you a letter but you need to get onto CIFAS and see if they have put a marker on. Instant closure, rather than 60 day notice, is often related to the bank thinking you're doing something dodgy. They are perfectly free to cancel accounts of anyone they don't want - hence the 60 day notice - but if they suspect you're doing something against the Ts & Cs they are perfectly free to kick you without notice or explanation. You would do well to have multiple accounts if you don't already and if they have done a CIFAS for something serious you may find other accounts closed. Get a basic account setup asap
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

What transactions have you made on the account? Anything related to Bitcoin or Bitcoin brokers?0 -
Barclays will have a concern over activity on the account. And a serious concern if they have not given you notice. You'll need to figure out what this may be.0

From what I can gather, by the sounds of things they've given you a lifetime ban. If this is the case you should receive a letter through the post in the next few days, though when you go into branch to collect the money they should be able to print you off a copy of the letter if this is the case. The good news is that they can send the funds in your account by faster payment to one of your other accounts in branch (though beware many of their branches close their counters early and they wouldn't send me the money whilst the counters were closed).
In my case they incorrectly put a default on my account (I think this was very much an exception rather than the rule though) and in the end I took the matter to the FOS because they refused to remove the default. At the case handler's stage Barclays agreed to pay me £100 in recognition of the fact that notice could've been given rather than immediate closure of my account. For further details see:

As others have mentioned, it would be helpful if you could you give some further details?
What sort of activity have you been doing on your account?
Any large or frequent transactions?
Any payments in/out of the account from abroad?
Have you ever given them false or misleading information?
Have you broken the Ts&Cs in any way, be it intentionally or unintentionally?
Have you always been polite to staff if/whenever you've spoken to them?
Any other details?

If they gave you notice of their actions, AND you WERE doing something wrong it would give you the opportunity to clear out your account ?
If they have clear evidence of wrongdoing you would not be getting your money back.0
